How Do You Spread Your Bagel?

Call me plain Jane, but I’m a traditionalist when it comes to food and everything of the like. So for me, there is nothing better than a toasted plain bagel smeared with heaps of delicious whipped cream cheese.¬†Sometimes I like a bagel smeared with cream cheese and topped with fresh tomato and garnished with some parsley. Or a toasted cinnamon raisin with butter.. mmmm heaven!

But for others, they like their bagels topped with anything they can get their hands on or stir up in the kitchen. How do you like to spread your bagel? Here’s a list of some favorites:

  • Plain Cream Cheese
  • Butter with Strawberry Jam
  • Butter…nothing else!
  • Cream Cheese with scallions
  • Plain Cream Cheese topped with tomato and garnished with parsley
  • Plain Cream Cheese topped with tomato and cucumber
  • Peanut Butter
  • Peanut Butter topped with sliced banana
  • Peanut Butter and Honey
  • Peanut Butter and Grape Jam
  • Cashew Butter
  • Cream Cheese and Honey
  • Cream Cheese with chocolate syrup
  • Mozzarella and tomato
  • Cottage cheese (with or without tomatoes or cucumbers)
  • Cream Cheese and a slice of cheese (with or without added veggies and/or pastrami)
  • Egg and Cheese (with or without bacon or ham)
  • Hummus (with or without tomato, cucumber or egg)
  • Cream Cheese with avocado and tomato (add bean sprouts and onions – one of my favs!)
  • Cream Cheese and Lox
  • Pizza Bagel (melted mozzarella and tomato sauce)
  • Scrambled Egg and Cheese with vegetables
  • Vegemite
  • Nutella
  • Veggies (romaine lettuce, spinach, olives, onion, etc. dabbed with olive oil, vinegar, salt, pepper)
  • Tuna Salad (tuna, mayo, chopped olives, onions)
  • Chicken Salad (shredded chicken, mayo, chopped olives, onions, celery, pepper)
  • Deli Slices topped with mustard, mayo, ketchup
  • Any kind of omelet

Pizza Bagel

Pizza Bagel

1 Spread the Bagel bagel (choose from your favorite savory flavors)

4 tbsp pizza sauce

1/2 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded cheese)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

  1. Slice the bagel in half
  2. Spread the pizza sauce evenly on both halves of the bagel
  3. Add cheese evenly to both halves of the bagel
  4. Place the bagel halves spread with sauce and cheese onto tray and slide into oven
  5. Let cook for 5 – 8 minutes (until cheese is deliciously bubbly!)
  6. Let cool for 5 minutes (or until you can’t resist the urge)

Tips:  add desired toppings like olives, mushrooms, bell peppers, pepperoni, sausage, etc when adding the mozzarella cheese. Or simply garnish with rosemary
